Ok we get it already, Christians an atheists have irreconcilable viewpoints. What I want to know is, why every time a believer and a non believer post side by side it degenerates into a mud slinging match. Why not we be more tolerant of each other?

How I recently handled JWs at my door
by Christian guy inthe jws stopped by my house a couple weeks ago on a saturday morning.
i knew that with others most likely waiting for them out in the car they probably did not then have much time to engage in any serious conversation.
so i let them talk while i feigned interest in what they had to say.

What the hell is a "land?"

Good point. It's a far less charged term than country, and easier to put them all under a broad heading like that rather than list countries, territories, protectorates, provinces, federations or whatever. I never thought of that.

They really did that even though they're just states of one country? Hell we could had counted Tasmania as a 'land'. Break up Indonesia, Japan and th philippines and you've got hundreds more 'lands'. Impressive eh, that jws can be found in 1000 lands...

Here's a good one: place open pans or pots of water in the four cardinal compass points of your house to keep bad electromagnetic energy out of your home. Yes, I really went to a sister's house once and found pots of water on the floor.

The elder said to me, "You're not supposed to take that seriously."
by Julia Orwell inhe's been to my door a couple of times as they've done the territory and said hello and all that, a nice, clean-shaven version of santa clause.
he was with a sister, a mild, pleasant intelligent sister with whom i always got on well, and we had a bit of a simple pleasantries-exchanging chat while my husband ran off and hid in the house like he normally does when jws come.. we got onto the sister's university studies and i said, "but at the dc they lumped university education in with fornication and every terrible thing!".
shaved santa pipes up suddenly, "oh, you're not meant to take that seriously.

Doug Mason, a JWN user, posted a discussion article on that very thing. As far as I'm concerned, the GB are just another clergy of another religion, the same as any other organised religion that's ever been. Some JWs celebrity worship them, but to most they're just a bunch of guys in Bethel who give the odd talk at the odd International convention. They are the Inner Party with Jehovah/Big Brother as the figurehead.

JW Apolgist rant here...and confession.
by Julia Orwell ini really don't like people disparaging active jws on this site by calling them stupid, idiots, morons and that, and making out like they're willing puppets to the gb or cruel at heart.
or describing them like they're puke or as having no desire to learn or listen.. to you, all these things may be true.
we all have opinions and are entitled to them.

Is JW Baptism the Only Valid Baptism?
by Cold Steel inwhat is the watchtower bible and tract societys view on baptism?
is it absolutely essential that one be baptized to gain eternal life in gods kingdom?.
and can they tell you who you can and cant baptize?.

Elders. No one special really. They have no personal authority to baptise ie they can't come to your house and baptise you in your swimming pool for instance, without the authority of the organisation. A baptised father could not baptise his children as the whole thing has to go through the body of elders and then you get dunked at an assembly. Baptism is a very public thing for JWs, and you have to prearrange to do it. You can't just show up at the assembly and join in the line. You have to go through questions with the elders and then they approve you. It's all very bureaucratic.
According to JWs only a baptism done by JWs with approval of the elders considered legit. It annuls any other baptisms you may have had such as in my case I was baptised Anglican as a baby. Since JWs believe they are the only true religion, any other baptism is not considered legitimate. However, if I were to get baptised with another church, such as as a born again or Mormon, that would annul my JW baptism I think, as I would be considered 'apostate' and disassociating myself. Maybe someone else, someone who has been an elder, can elaborate on this more.

And that's the thing I like about Shaved Santa. He's very open. The time might be coming when guys like that are no longer made elders because they he lacks that discretion and calls a spade a spade. They will increasingly want stupid guys who are smart enough to shut up.
